The thugs who are armed with dangerous weapons also burnt tyres to disrupt regular movement into the assembly complex.
Some anti-riot policemen who arrived the scene moments ago, are yet to bring the situation under control.
This is coming after the speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, received the court judgement sacking a state lawmaker who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the House of Assembly has said.
The sacked lawmaker, Idongesit Ituen, represented the Itu state constituency.
The State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier issued a statement, based on intelligence report, that there were plans by the APC to use thugs and cause a breach of peace, thereby stalling proceedings at the chambers.
Gov Udom Emmanuel on his part has repeatedly warned politicians against violence, maintaining that nothing short of peace and unity is needed to move Akwa Ibom forward, irrespective of political affiliations or aspirations.
